Background:

Firstborn of Orion and Walburga Black, Sirius comes from a very old and dark family, supporting the prejudices of purebloods. A family that prided itself for dating back centuries full of naught but Pure-blooded wizards and witches. And Sirius was raised at arms length to be the heir of the Noble and Most Ancient House of Black. At an early age, however, it became apparent fast that Sirius was not going to be the perfect, obedient and unquestioning Black heir his parents hoped for. His 'acting out', as his father dubbed it, began during one socialite garden party when Sirius challenged his cousin Bellatrix to tell him what was so bloody great about being a Pure-blood when you couldn't have any fun. Until that point, Orion and Walburga hadn't thought much of their son's tear-away behavior. They thought it was only natural for a young, spoilt boy his age to be a thorn in their side. They thought he'd grow out of his rebellious ways with time, and eventually mature into his responsibilities to uphold the Black's name.

They learned to think differently when Sirius went against the grain and got himself sorted into Gryffindor rather than his family's more traditional Slytherin.

Obviously more independent and rebellious than his younger sibling, Sirius was the first Black sorted into Gryffindor in as long as anyone could remember, which caused a huge rift between Sirius and Regulus. Sirius had always thought that having a little brother was the greatest thing in the world, until their split. Sirius assumes that Regulus took it as a betrayal, to him and to the family, that he was sorted into Godric’s house instead of Salazar’s. He feebly tried to patch up their relationship, however it didn’t work… and away to Hogwarts he went.

Sirius formed strong friendship with James Potter in their first year of school. Despite their family backgrounds they bonded over Quidditch and sweets and a love for mayhem that could not be matched. His relationship with Peter was different, and he sometimes found himself wondering why they’re even friends, but Sirius thought it all came back to the fact that he missed his little brother dearly and saw Peter as a replacement, someone who would be loyal to him and not just their family. Remus was another odd friend, but Sirius likes to think of Moony as the balance to their group. With Sirius’ energy and spontaneous personality, James’ schemes and plans, Remus played an integral part in keeping them from burning down Hogwarts, but just barely, and generally running amuck. He knows he can count on Moony to be the voice of reason and give him wisdom and often goes to him when he’s ‘feeling crazy’.

It was the summer holidays before Sirius' sixth year began that he ran away from Twelve Grimmauld Place and was taken in by the Potter’s like a second son. One of several ongoing rows between he and his mother escalated beyond yelling and screeching, and Sirius had had decided enough was enough of her emotional abuse and his fathers physical abuse. He packed his trunk, brushed past Regulus' feeble attempt to stop him. Sirius left with only a glance back for his brother who he got along with when they were younger, and wished would stop allowing himself to be spoon-fed their intolerance and purist beliefs, before he walked out the door for the last time.

Once the Blacks found out where their son was, they gave Sirius an ultimatum: return to the family, or never be allowed back in. He won’t ever speak of it to anyone, not even the Marauders, about what had happened that night he left...

Psychology:

Phobias/Fears: Becoming like his Father, for one. For another, his cousin Bellatrix. That bird's batshit. Sirius can't not be surrounded by people for too long; he's terrified of being alone.
Mental Health: Most of the time? Relatively good, depending on who you're asking. Some might call him mad, but Sirius knows he is perfectly sane. Well, he might be a little bent in the mind, because of his childhood, but he’s a good man. He’s often impulsive, which leads to things happening like the Whomping Willow incident. He’s never been really good at expressing his ‘gooshy feelings’ like love, because of his lack of familiarity with it when he was a child.
Overall Personality: Sirius is loud and rambunctious, an open book of emotions and expressions. Although he's generally friendly, and knows how to charm, he can be a right snot when he wants to with a devil-may-care attitude. He's a loose-cannon - there's no predicting what he'll do sometimes. Sirius isn't afraid to speak out what's on his mind, which makes him intimidating to some and well-liked by others for the confidence and blunt sincerity he possesses. Unfortunately, he’s become the carbon copy of his father when regarding his temper…
Character Flaws: Recklessness, unpredictable viciousness, and arrogance.

She was his first love... first everything, really. Sirius doesn't keep a girlfriend because he gets bored easy. Most girls are lovely, but no one has caught his attention and held it for too long. Some people judge him and call him a flirt or a womanizer or tell him that he’s afraid of commitment, but it’s untrue, and Sirius knows it. He just doesn’t want to be bored forevermore. If he could take Peter, James and Remus and stuff them all into a body like Lily’s, he’d be set for life, but alas, he’s not found a way to channel those attributes together or found someone with them.

Academic Attitude: He's rather lackadaisical about homework and all that, but in class he's mostly attentive when he's not being lectured. Somehow he still manages to scrape by brilliant marks which he owes to his sheer brilliance.
Best Subjects: All of them, he should think.
Worst Subjects: History of Magic; he can't be bothered to pay attention to Binns' monotonous drivel. And Herbology.
